Roava (“we”, “our”, or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use the Roava mobile application (“App”). Roava is intended for users aged 13 and older.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
- Name and Email Address: Collected via Apple Sign-In to create and manage your account. Your name and email are optional and controlled by Apple’s privacy settings.
Location Data
- Precise GPS Coordinates: Including latitude, longitude, altitude, heading, speed, and accuracy metrics. Location data is used to discover nearby landmarks and provide relevant audio tours.
- Continuous Location Tracking: While the App is in use, your location is monitored periodically to detect nearby landmarks. You can disable location access at any time through your device settings, though this will limit core functionality.
- Location Query History: We store records of location-based queries to improve landmark discovery and reduce redundant lookups.
Usage and Interaction Data
- Analytics Events: We collect anonymized interaction data such as screen views, landmark selections, audio playback actions (play, pause, restart), onboarding progress, and feature usage.
- Visit History: We record which landmarks you visit and when.
Device Information
- Technical Data: Device type, operating system, app version, locale, and whether the app is running on an emulator.
Error and Crash Data
- Diagnostic Logs: We collect error reports and crash data to identify and fix bugs. Sensitive data is sanitized before transmission.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Core Functionality: To discover nearby landmarks, generate and deliver audio tours, and track your visit history.
- AI-Generated Content: Your landmark queries are used to generate personalized audio tour scripts and follow-up topics using artificial intelligence services. We send landmark metadata (name, type, location details) to AI providers for content generation — your personal information is not included in these requests.
- Subscription Management: To validate your subscription status and manage access to premium features.
- Analytics and Improvement: To understand how the App is used and improve the experience.
- Error Resolution: To diagnose and fix technical issues.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
3. Third-Party Services
We share data with the following third-party services to operate the App:

4. AI-Generated Content
Tour scripts, audio narration, and follow-up topics are generated using artificial intelligence. We send landmark information (not your personal data) to AI providers for content generation. Generated content is cached on our servers so repeat visits do not require additional AI processing. Please review the privacy policies of our AI providers (OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Exa) for details on how they handle data.
5. Data Retention
- Account Data: Retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.
- Location Queries: Retained to optimize landmark discovery. Deleted upon account deletion.
- Analytics Data: Retained in anonymized form for product improvement.
- AI-Generated Content: Cached indefinitely to serve returning users and reduce generation costs. This content is associated with landmarks, not individual users.
- Error Logs: Retained per Sentry’s standard retention policies.
6. Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS)
- Token-based authentication with automatic rotation
- Rate limiting on API requests
- Secure storage of credentials on your device
- Sanitization of sensitive data before error reporting
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated personal data.
- Location Opt-Out: Disable location services through your device settings at any time.
- Analytics Opt-Out: Contact us to request removal from analytics tracking.

8. Children’s Privacy
Roava is intended for users age 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
